On 25th March 2025, SUM College of Teacher Education organized a significant Anti-Drug Class and Oath-Taking Ceremony at the SUM Auditorium. The event, chaired by Dr. CV Jayasree, Principal of SUM College, was designed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage a drug-free lifestyle among the students and faculty.

The ceremony commenced with an inspiring talk delivered by Mr. Dasan Master, the Vimukthi Dhramadam Constitution convenor. Mr. Dasan spoke at length about the severe consequences of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society. He highlighted the rise in addiction rates and its detrimental impact on physical and mental health, as well as on social and economic well-being. His message was clear: the need for collective effort to combat this growing menace.

Following his address, the event saw a series of felicitation speeches. Ward Member Valsala shared her insights on community involvement in anti-drug campaigns and the importance of creating supportive environments for individuals at risk of falling into addiction. Mr. Krishnakumar EP, IQAC coordinator, another key speaker, emphasized the role of educational institutions in shaping young minds and guiding them toward healthier life choices.

George Joseph, the staff secretary, addressed the gathering with a message on the responsibility of educators in fostering awareness and setting an example for students. He stressed that schools and colleges play a crucial role in the prevention of drug abuse through education, counseling, and activities that promote mental and physical well-being. The staff secretary also delivered a felicitation talk, emphasizing the college’s commitment to supporting such initiatives for a drug-free future.

The highlight of the event was the Oath-Taking Ceremony, where all attendees, including students, faculty, and staff, took an oath to stay away from drugs and work towards promoting a drug-free society. The ceremony concluded with a call to action, urging everyone to spread awareness and take responsibility in the fight against drug abuse.
